LIFE UPDATE: Summer 2021



Is your blog still live? Why haven’t you wrote or blogged anything lately? I’ve been waiting to read the blog. These are just a few questions and statements I’ve heard recently from a few followers.










First, I’m so sorry! I told myself life wouldn’t get between me and the blog… and it did. I’ll make it up to y’all with this BIG update and a LITTLE giveaway. 





One. I wrapped up another year teaching and made the change to teach third grade ELA/Reading/writing and all things literacy at a new school for next school year. To be honest, at first I was nervous about the change of grade levels and schools, but now I’m super pumped up! Especially since  Brody Boy will be attending PREK3 with momma close by! Y’ALL, nothing prepares you as a teacher momma to see your son, your little boy, your first born in a school uniform. 


Two. We will be moving out of town, but still close by. We are excited for the change and chance to slow down a little bit and enjoy the peacefulness! This will give us an opportunity to be closer to Andrew’s family and hometown. A little bit out of my comfort zone, but I am trusting in God’s plan. 


THREE. My baby boy will be 3 this weekend, starting big boy school in August, and is full of energy and fun. This summer so far has been one of the best and we traveled quite a bit and spent much needed quality time together. Also, we visited the doctor’s office THREE times since May. I am just praying hard this is boosting up his immune system for big boy school. 


Four. Summer. Trips. Yes, FOUR. My husband isn’t too excited, but hey! You only live once, right? Oops! Forgot a bonus, much needed ADULT trip with just my hubby for my friend’s baby shower! 





Camping Beach Vacation Trip

(1st out of state camper experience)

Foley, Alabama (booked last minute Sunday-Tuesday) 

Fort Walton Beach, Florida (booked Tuesday-Friday) 

Poche’s RV Park (Friday-Sunday) 

Total trip: Sunday-Sunday 

Sunday-Friday (had two nieces with us) 

Friday-Sunday (just us 

Foley was alright. The kids had fun and it was busy because Monday was Memorial Day. 

Fort Walton was awesome! Nice and quiet RV park with amenities across the street. 

Poche’s was rainy and relaxing. We fished, played at the splash pad, and a whole ice chest of beer was stolen! 

Girl’s Trip #1

Bunkie, LA 

Gator Grounds 

Sunday-Tuesday 

Short and sweet! Had a little cabin, but was kind of musty. The amenities and pools/splash pad was a hit for all the kiddos. 

Girl’s Trip #2 

Houston, Texas 

AIRBNB 

Wednesday- Saturday 

We celebrated my 32nd birthday with hibachi dinner. The next day we went to the Dr. Seuss experience and the free child’s museum. Friday was a “chill day” at the awesome pool. We had the pool to ourselves. 

Staycation at False River

Sunday-Wednesday 

A perfect short staycation to wrap up summer! 

ADULT TRIP 

Madisonville/Covington 

TBD, but probably just a hotel since for one night 

Saturday-Sunday 

Attending a friend’s baby shower; therefore, decided to take a much needed adult trip with the hubby before school starts. 


I told dear hubby that traveling and vacationing was a hobby of mine. Just because I like to see new places after I plan for them. I really have thought about being a travel agent with a spin, but not sure how that would work out with a busy child and a teaching career. 


How is your summer going? Is it flying by? I know it is HOT if you are in South Louisiana. However it is going… I hope you are relaxing, recharging, and resting.

Welcome to Adventures of a Frugal Teacher Mom (AFTM)!

My name is Natalie Chustz, and I am from Cajun country also known as south Louisiana. I am an educator teaching young learners at a small Catholic school and a mom to an active two-year-old. I enjoy all things educational technology, photography, traveling, camping (or glamping), wine, and just enjoying the little things in life. I completed my first puzzle on New Years. It only took two days since I had huge help from the family.  After a few adventures in 2020 (the pandemic year), a colleague gave me a bright idea. Sweet Summertime & Back to School

Well…. Summer (break) is over and now it is back to school! What a wonderful summer it was! I hope it was restful, relaxing, and rejuvenating for you.  During our last HOORAH before the new school year, I thought to myself “It has been a super long time since I opened my computer to write a blog post.” We did a stay-cation to New Roads, the hubby’s hometown, and this is exactly what we all needed.  Check out the link on AIRBNB if you are curious to view our stay-cation place. The views, the cozy cottage feel, and the decks/patios were amazing to wind down before school starts.  Before the trip, I bought these cute little “tackle boxes” or storage containers from Dollar Tree. I have been wanting to try out the Snack Mom Hack for a while. Before we left four our staycation, I packed up the Snack Boxes. They were a big success and baby boy enjoyed his assortment of snacks.
